Rostock Botanical Garden

The University of Rostock Botanical Garden cultivates nearly 10,000 plant species in a beautiful and varied park covering almost 8 hectares. In addition to its scientific use by the University of Rostock, the Botanical Garden is also open to the public. The outdoor grounds invite visitors to take a grand tour through the plant world, exploring its development and evolution.

Spread across the entire grounds, the arboretum showcases many different tree species and their respective natural habitats. In several biotopes—such as dunes, wet meadows, alder swamps, and beech forests—the plants have grown completely naturally. The rock garden (Alpinum) showcases the wonderful and resilient plant life of the high mountains.

In addition, many native, protected plant species are on display—species that, unfortunately, are no longer easily found in the wild. An interesting herb garden featuring culinary herbs, medicinal plants, and aromatic herbs provides insight into the use of plants in cooking and daily life. An interesting and educational destination, set in a beautiful and relaxing park.
