Rostock City Harbor

Rostock’s city harbor has evolved into a true shopping promenade—at the latest after several renovations made it fully accessible to pedestrians. Until the early 1990s, parts of Rostock’s city harbor were still used as a cargo handling facility. After that, all the facilities were dismantled, and the city harbor was transformed from a rusty wharf into a beautiful, wide promenade. An original bridge crane and two cargo cranes on the Haedge Peninsula still bear witness to the harbor’s cargo-handling days of the past.

Charming shops with an interesting selection of maritime goods, popular restaurants with delicious menus (Tip: Try the fish!), nightclubs, bars, and theaters add variety to everyday life. Here you can shop, eat, take a walk, people-watch, stroll, or simply relax while enjoying a small ice cream. Or watch the many boats and ships mooring at the quay wall. In addition to the many boat docks for sailboats and recreational craft, every now and then a few larger vessels—luxury yachts or old icebreakers—dock in the city harbor.

Rostock’s city harbor is also a great starting point for harbor tours. These depart from here at regular intervals and take you on a short Baltic Sea cruise—where you can experience Warnemünde and the entrance to Rostock Harbor from the sea—through Rostock’s overseas port and across the entire Rostock harbor area.
