About Us

We are rebus

Our passengers are our top priority: Satisfied customers who enjoy using our buses frequently to get around are the goal of our work.

Tasks

Rebus Regionalbus Rostock GmbH has been contracted by the Rostock District to provide local public transportation throughout the entire Rostock District. Based on the “Regional Public Transportation Plan for Central Mecklenburg/Rostock,” this includes all bus service in the Rostock district, including connections to the Hanseatic City of Rostock:

The schools in the Rostock district (68 schools as of 2015) must be served by school transportation in such a way that every student can travel safely and without risk from their home to their school.
Schools in the Hanseatic City of Rostock are additionally served depending on the type of school and the area where the student lives—for example, whether or not there are assigned schools.

School transportation in the Rostock district is generally integrated into the regular public transit system. Based on current student enrollment figures, students’ places of residence, and the class schedules of individual schools, we develop a customized comprehensive timetable at the beginning of each school year. This timetable may be adjusted slightly during the school year—for example, to account for changes in class schedules or student enrollment.

The School Transportation Ordinance, enacted in accordance with the provisions of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania School Act (SchulG M-V), and the Ordinance on the Determination of School Catchment Areas in the Rostock district must be taken into account as fundamental guidelines.

Further information on school transportation

Regular public transportation in the Rostock district connects towns and villages of all sizes and links the immediate surrounding area to the Hanseatic City of Rostock. Together with other modes of transportation, particularly local rail passenger service (SPNV), a comprehensive network connecting the individual cities and centers of the Rostock district as well as the Hanseatic City of Rostock is being established. To this end, we are working with our partners in the Warnow Transportation Association (VVW) to develop a unified, comprehensive schedule with reliably coordinated transfer connections.

Well-timed departure and arrival times ensure a convenient and fast commute for commuters. The service for working people is rounded out by attractive direct connections to the commercial centers of the Rostock district and the direct link between Rostock’s city transit system and the surrounding region.

Of course, the district isn’t made up solely of working people—all other residents are also entitled to accessible public transportation services. Outside of peak commuting hours, we provide additional trips and connections tailored to passenger volume. These take into account the regionally varying opening hours of healthcare facilities, shopping centers, and recreational facilities. Even in more remote rural areas, we ensure that all residents have access to good local public transportation services.

Further Information: Schedules

What would a Baltic Sea district be without its tourists? The Rostock district is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in northern Germany. We combine the fully developed coastal strip—with its wide, fine-sand beaches, beautiful hotels, diverse dining options, and wide range of activities—with the district’s green, well-forested, and agriculturally rich inland areas. Here, vast forests and numerous lakes in peaceful settings invite visitors to rest and relax.

With a focus on the needs and expectations of sustainable tourism, we also ensure attractive transportation links to attractions and destinations throughout the district. Depending on seasonal ridership, we increase the frequency of trips to these destinations and provide more connections for guests and visitors to the Rostock district. We provide additional service for major events and highlights—such as the Cityfest in Güstrow, the HanseSail in Rostock, and Warnemünder Woche.

We offer special solutions for regions where regular scheduled service would not be justified due to low population density. To ensure that all residents there are well connected to the local transit network in a way that meets their needs, we provide transportation through alternative services outside of regular scheduled service.

In addition, there is a series of measures aimed at creating a modern, attractive, and needs-based public transit system:

Through regular training sessions, continuing education, and meetings, we ensure that our employees are always well-trained and fully informed. This includes making sure that all employees are well-informed about the route network, the current schedule, and the fares. Our drivers and customer service representatives, in particular, are able to provide passengers with comprehensive advice thanks to their excellent local knowledge and understanding of regional characteristics.

The vehicles used for regular and school bus service must meet specific requirements: They must be appropriate for the respective passenger volume (not too large, not too small), be state-of-the-art, and be uniformly equipped with modern and compatible technology.

One task in the area of vehicle equipment is to convert all vehicles to accessible and mobility-friendly specifications by January 1, 2022.
It has been agreed to use “low-floor” vehicles whenever possible: “Low-floor” buses have low floors and aisles and do not require stairs or steps. This makes it easier—or even possible for the first time—for older passengers or those with limited mobility to use the bus, and it also makes it easier to bring along strollers and bicycles.

Long trips for buses to and from the depot to their routes (so-called “transfer times”) run counter to a modern and environmentally friendly public transit concept. Such empty runs are not only time-consuming but also costly and must therefore be avoided at all costs. We must therefore ensure, through a well-developed network of service, maintenance, and parking facilities within the Rostock district, that our vehicles are always ready for service and available near their operating locations.

In addition, our daily work involves many smaller tasks: Among other things, through our participation in the Warnow Transportation Association (VVW), we ensure close coordination with other transit companies to maintain a unified overall schedule and uniform fares throughout the entire service area. We regularly incorporate the needs and requests of cities and municipalities, schools, organizations, and parents into our schedule planning. As part of a standardized bus stop concept, we install the necessary bus stop equipment (in our case, bus stop signs with display panels) in cooperation with the county, which is responsible for operating the bus stops.

Organization

We work hand in hand: Thanks to short lines of communication, all employees are integrated into the company. A flat organizational structure allows us to respond quickly and flexibly to all the demands of local public transportation in the Rostock district.
