Bus School

Road Safety Education Project by rebus Regionalbus Rostock GmbH

Every day, approximately 14,500 students use the school buses operated by rebus Regionalbus Rostock GmbH. This long-standing project has been ensuring greater safety on the way to school and on the buses ever since it began.

Teachers of first- and second-grade classes, as well as preschool teachers, can register their classes for the bus safety program. After scheduling an appointment, our rebus bus safety instructors will visit the school with a vehicle and conduct the bus safety program with the classes.

Registration Information:

  • Registration for Schools or Daycare Centers
  • Teachers of grades 1 and 2, as well as preschool teachers, can register for the bus school by email at busschule@rebus.de or directly via the form, providing the following information:
    • Name and location of the institution
    • Number of children and caregivers
    • Ages of the children

The rebus Bus School instructors will then promptly schedule an on-site visit.

Behavior on the Bus

Lining Up at the Bus Stop

When boarding, form a line that runs parallel to the bus if possible, because

  • in tight spaces, there isn’t enough room
  • cyclists and pedestrians won’t be obstructed
  • The bus driver can see all the students waiting
  • There is no risk that students standing at the front will be pushed onto the road.

Waiting at the bus stop

While waiting at the bus stop, please maintain a safe distance of one meter from the curb. This allows the bus driver to pull up to the stop safely and open the door without any problems.

Please do not run around or push and shove, so that no student ends up in the street.

Getting on the Bus

Once the bus has pulled into the stop and the doors are fully open, you can board the bus and find a seat. Please board one by one and show the bus driver your student pass.

Please board the bus quickly without pushing or shoving. This makes boarding much faster and more pleasant for everyone.

Door Safety Features

The bus doors lock automatically when pressure builds up on the other side. So it’s best to wait a short distance away from the bus until the doors are fully open, and then get on.

In Emergency Situations

The Emergency Hammer

After an accident, the emergency hammer can save lives, because without it, it’s nearly impossible to break the windows.

The theft of emergency hammers therefore leads to dangerous situations when, in the event of an accident, it is not possible to exit the bus.

The side windows of buses are made of so-called Sekurit glass, which prevents injuries from shards.

The Emergency Faucet

It is located above or next to the doors. In an emergency, after removing the protective cover, turn the emergency lever in the direction of the arrow. This triggers an audible signal to alert the bus driver to any unauthorized manual removal of the protective cover.

Emergency Exit Through the Skylights

If the bus is on its side after an accident, passengers can exit through the roof hatches. To do so, pull the red handles on the roof hatches; the hatches can then be easily pushed outward.

Emergency equipment is to be used only in an emergency.

This means: permitted only in acute emergency situations. An emergency exists when there is an immediate danger to the health of passengers or the operating crew.

If you operate the emergency equipment without authorization or in violation of the law, you may face the following consequences:

Claims for damages:

You are liable for all resulting costs. These include costs for police or emergency services, costs resulting from service disruptions and delays, as well as the costs of restoring the vehicle to operational condition.

Criminal charges:

Misuse of emergency calls and emergency assistance equipment is a criminal offense (Section 145 of the German Criminal Code) and may be punishable by a fine or imprisonment.

Exclusions from coverage:

Misuse will result in immediate removal from the vehicle and may lead to a permanent ban on riding (ban from the premises).
