Münster Bad Doberan

Bad Doberan Cathedral

The imposing cathedral in Bad Doberan was built in the 13th century as the monastery church of the Cistercian monastery in Doberan.

A distinctive feature of the Doberan Cathedral is its interior furnishings: in no other Cistercian building have the furnishings been preserved in such a complete state as here. Thanks to its subsequent role as a burial site and parish church following the end of monastic life, the building and its interior furnishings remained in use, and Bad Doberan’s remote location also spared it from most wartime events.

On daily guided tours of the abbey, visitors can learn everything worth knowing about Doberan Abbey, the Cistercian monastery, and its grounds.
